Questions

• People already go to my Web site. Why would I use yours?
Promotion of your Web site should occur throughout your business. Here are some ideas.
1. Promote it on all printed materials and all signage.
2. Promote it as part of the signature file on all out-going e-mail.
3. Promote it in all advertising, including print and broadcast.
4. Promote it on the Web.

By promoting it on our site we are exposing hundreds of thousands of Internet users to your message. We are also doing something no other advertising can do, sending people directly to your site. This added bonus of Web advertising makes it the premium media to promote your site. Our site is the area's leading source of online news and information and a traffic leader in this market. These two facts combine to make our Web site the logical location form which to promote your site.

• I don't have a Web site. Do you create Web sites?
We do. We can create a simple Web page for you and house it on our Web site or we can link directly to one of your print ads.

*Internet Marketing Committee recommendations approved by the Tourism Commission during Sept. 20 meeting.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – During the Sept. 20 Tourism Commission meeting, the commission approved the following recommendations of the Internet Marketing Committee for inclusion of the Internet in the Matching Advertising Partnership Program (MAPProgram):

INTERNET MEDIA:
* Internet media will be allowed in the MAPProgram with the requirement of using the Wild and Wonderful logo as specified in the Logo Standards.

* Pay-per-click will be allowed under Internet Media for use by statewide tourism associations only. This was extensively discussed by the committee, and it was felt that this form of advertising should be allowed for state associations only (i.e., Ski Areas Association, Rail Association, Mountain State Association of B&B’s). The committee felt that use of pay-per-click by individual tourism businesses could encourage unnecessary internal competition among West Virginia entities, creating a drain on the fund. This particular form of advertising will not require the logo on the initial ads, as it cannot be utilized in the pay-per-click format, but logo use will be required on the page consumers are directed to as a result of the ad.

The following applies to all advertising in the Internet Media category:
• Upon approval, applicant is required to have a visible reciprocal link to the West Virginia Division of Tourism’s home page (www.wvtourism.com). Consumers must be able to reach the Division’s Web site with one click from the page where they are first directed by the advertising. The West Virginia Wild and Wonderful logo must appear as specified in the Logo Standards.

• The Tourism Commission/Division of Tourism reserves the right to determine the acceptability and value of all written, graphic and visual material as to its content and appropriateness for the general public and for the state’s effort to promote tourism.

• Internet Media will be eligible for Production Expenses as currently allowed – 15 percent per media category with a $22,500 cap.

WEB SITE DEVELOPMENT/DESIGN/UPGRADES:

Web site development/design/upgrades will be allowed in the program with a $22,500 category cap. The following also applies:

· Applicant must attach an outline of information and images to be placed on Web site and where they will fit into the current Web site if applicable. The Tourism Commission/Division of Tourism reserves the right to determine the acceptability and value of all written, graphic and visual material as to its content and appropriateness for the general public and for the state’s effort to promote tourism.

· Upon approval applicant is required to have a visible reciprocal link to the West Virginia Division of Tourism’s home page (www.wvtourism.com). Consumers must be able to reach the Division’s Web site with one click. The West Virginia Wild and Wonderful logo must appear as specified in the Logo Standards Guide.

· Expenses may not include monthly or annual server/host and maintenance fees.

· Applicant may be required to electronically display proposed site changes at approval meeting.

· All retail price-point or real estate advertising must be pro-rated.

New forms incorporating the above changes have been posted on the Division of Tourism’s Web site www.wvtourism.com and are available for immediate use. Reminder - the next deadline for $10,000 + MAPP applications is Monday, Oct. 1 by 5 p.m. These applications will be reviewed at the December Tourism Commission meeting.

• I don't believe in all that techno stuff.
• I don't like using the internet.

Your may not, but your customer does. The growth of the Internet is an undeniable fact. It has forever changed our lives, not only in the way we get news, but also in the that we shop, research, entertain and communicate with one another. If you ruly do not believe in the "techno stuff," you are in a minority. As of April 2006 there were 172 million Americans (77 percent) online. This was up 5 percent from the previous year. In 1995 just 9 percent of adults were online. Non Web users are an ever-shrinking minority.

Overall, newspaper Web sites operated by Ogden Newspapers, the parent company of this newspaper, have increased 51 percent in the period from January 2006 to January 2007.

• Why would I want to go on your Web site if it rotates my ad?
Your ad may rotate with a few other ads. This assures the page will appear fresh to the user and draw more attention to your ad. Ads in all media rotate. Outdoor ads "rotate" past your window as you drive, radio and TV "rotate" through time spots and stations. Even print ads "rotate" as your turn the page. Online ads appear along side attention grabbing editorial content EVERY time it is displayed. Something no other media can claim. You only pay for the impressions your ad gets.

• How many times is my ad seen?
Since we sell our advertising based on the cost per thousand, your ad will display as many times as you want it to. We have packages to fit your advertising budget. We can take a level of impressions and spread them throughout the entire month.
